Hmm, not there yet, wondering what the price will be compared to Apple's Pages. Expecting a lot of announcements today and tomorrow as MacWorld/iWorld runs today through Saturday in San Francisco.

Microsoft said that its Office iPad apps will be free to people who want to use them in read-only mode. But to create files on the iPad, users will have to pay an annual subscription fee for Office 365, the name for the latest version of Office. It costs $100 per year for consumers.

iWorks is free with every Mac and iOS device and includes iPhoto, iMovie and GarageBand in addition to Pages (Word), Numbers (Excel), and Keynote (PowerPoint). Granted, the Office suite products may have more features, but how many people use their iPad as their main production machine?

Pages is very basic these days. Even the mac version got dumbed down to match the ios version. I switched to a mac last year, but i still ended up buying office after trying apple's efforts. I really wanted to love them too, but they just dont compare
