I must admit, it all looks very pretty and it's becoming harder to resist with each update.

My shopping list and wallet opts for more bang, less buck.

My wallet said not until they bring their prices down to be more aligned with comparable consumer electronics because the minor technological differences don't justify the very high price differences IMO.

I think in the end it will be a mission critical compelling software or hardware feature that will make the difference and they're not quite there yet but the new cameras in the latest Apple gear and photo software in iOS7 sure made my hand on my wallet start to twitch.

Problem I have is that other than my desktop, which I have all screaming fast high speed gear, with my portable devices I tend to go middle of the road where it's just cheap enough that if it breaks, which they all do, or gets stolen, that I won't cry if I have to buy a new one.

Not so with something Mac priced, I would have to get the laptop or tablet insured because it's just too pricey to easily afford replacing IMO.

Price is relative. Of all phones I've owned (and out here we don't do subsidized phone so we do own them and pay for them up front). My old iPhone 3GS is the one that lasted me the longest. That includes a Nokia 3610 and a few lesser Nokia's, a samsungs, a Siemens, a Sony, an LG, ... The 3GS's hardware is still fine but it's going to get replaced cause it won't run the latest software anymore. And since it's got net.access it'll become ever more vulnerable.

Divide price by how long I've had it or by how much I've used it and the iPhone is by far the cheapest and the most reliable phone I've ever had. Second is the Nokia (it actually got stolen out of the car when I forgot it in there once).

Some goes for my macs: they last much longer, so I don't care that they are a bit more expensive. And it's not that much more for truly comparable hardware that doesn't change every 2 weeks.

Looking forward to the Retina iPad Mini. I think that's the sweet spot for me
right form factor + great display + iOS apps = win.

The best thing about Apple's products is they are simple to use. I give my elderly parents an iPad and they're good to go.

Now if only they'd make iTunes something other than a POS.

StoutFiles, I agree, iTunes is the bottom of the barrel as far as Apple products are concerned. Not sure why they can't get it right, most of their products are intuitive and easy to use, not so much with iTunes.
