Are you able to get email? Or accomplish anything else online such as chat?

I can access the internet if I go into classic mode and then use internet explorer.

By classic mode, I assume you mean Pre OSX (System 9 or earlier)?

Can you access your email in System 10? I'm just trying to see if you are having an internet connection problem in OSX rather then a problem with Safari.

No not having an internet connection problem. Safari just stopped working - when I click on the icon for Sarari nothing happens.

Have you tried going in to your application folder and clicking on the Safari.app?

If my suggestion works, you should create a new alias (control-click on the app and choose "Make Alias").

If it does not work, you may wish to dig up your original OSX disks and re-install Safari.

If travelin cat's broken alias suggestion doesn't work, try creating a new user, and see if that user can run Safari. If so it should be fixable - log back into the malfunctioning account and go to YourUserFolder/Library/Preferences and delete the com.apple.Safari.plist file.

There is also a YourUserFolder/Library/Safari/ folder which contains a number of .plist files, you might want to try deleting them if the above doesn't work (not tried doing that but should be ok - deleted .plist files generally get recreated with default settings when an application is next launched).

thanks for the help. I tried installing from my original disks for my computer but it did not work. I'll have to try the new idea when I get home.
