Absolutely love the top sites feature. Fell in love with that when I saw it in Google Chrome (which is only available for Windows, but looks nice on a Mac in Parallels in Coherance mode). But the new Safari is prettier.
The refresh button is not missing, it's just no longer a button. It is now part of the address bar window, at the very right end.

Also, I will be contrary and say I like the new placement of the tabs. I hate it when a browser becomes more function space and less web page space. IE is the worst for this. The new tab position in Safari makes very good use of an already existing space, rather than creating new function space for the tabs and reducing the page space size.

Another quick impression: Yesterday afternoon I installed Safari 4 in Windows. I know I said I like the new tab placement in OS X, but I absolutley HATE it in Windows. The tabs become part of the blue window frame. NOTHING in Windows that I've ever seen has reused that space, that's NEVER app space, that's ALWAYS OS space.
It's slightly different in OS X because the window OS functions aren't as separated from the app as they are in Windows.

Aye that would be weird. Tabs + Windows menus must be messy.
On OSX, I think the tabs are in absolutely the right place. Takes a bit of getting used to, but it's where they should be in my opinion.
Web kit is brilliant on it...
I think I'd move from FF, if safari had a few more plugins.

Another thing I've always loved about safari, and has been slightly improved, is the 'activity' dialogue. A really handy tool for interviewing the content type when a page is downloaded.
Wish FF had that one.

My Safari 4 has just updated itself to 4.0 (5530.17). The tabs are no longer at the top of the window (where I liked them!) The tabs are now directly above the content window, and by default, no tab shows if only one is open. Also, I see no way to open a new tab (there used to be a + tab button on the right on the top...)

Re: No button to open new tab, I see now that there are now a few new optional buttons you can add to the toolbar, one of them is "New Tab".

Funny... I find myself using keystrokes much more on the Mac than I do on Windoze... like Command-N for new window and Command-Down for open...

It seems a bit slow. Really like the feature of favorite site windows. It isn't really good at seeing changes to the site, but it is still a nice feature.
One real good thing is you can pin your favorite sites down. Chrome moves them around on you. and I also like you can choose between many or a few sites on display.
Chrome is a lot faster at brining the site up.

Safari used to be my most favorite browser until this update mainly because of unlimited history. The color scheme is too close to firefox now so it's hard to tell which browser I have open and I don't see any options to change that. And worst of all they moved the refresh button to the end of the address bar and I use that hundreds of times a day when building websites--VERY annoying. If they don't fix the later so I'll be biting the bullet and switching to another browser.
