Then once I get into the folder, sometimes a directory or two deep, there is no option to back out step by step (Mac OS 4.11). I have to go way back to the documents folder and start over and sometimes the file I need is several directories deep. And this is repeated with every application. Very annoying!
It seems to me this should be something that Apple would set up on their own being as every website on the internet needs a web designer to set it up. Anyone know a way to set this up?
BTW, I write code by hand so if this is a feature in dreamweaver, et. al. I'm not aware of it.

It's one of the first utilities I install on every new Mac. And whenever I use a Mac that doesn't have Default Folder X, I feel absolutely crippled.

In most OSX versions, as far back as I can remember, when a document is open (in many apps) you can control click on the name of the document on the top of the window. This will open a hierarchical menu for you to back out to a higher directory.
Also, most programs have an "Open Recent" in the File menu.
One more thing, in most apps, when you use "Open", the pop up men on the top has a "Recent Places. It's also there when you choose "Save As". I use these all the time so as to not have to constantly navigate through each nested directory.
