News on the new Apple OS

I'm going to buy a new Mac, but I of course want to be on the bleeding edge. But, of course, as an American, I don't like waiting. So, I've started looking for when the new OS is going come out.

After spending more time on this than anyone should, I found the answer: no one knows. But, informed guesses are pointing to June. (If you do a lot of digging on this, you'll discover that the informed guessing a few months ago was late March. So, take this news for what it's worth.)

If it's most important to be on the bleeding edge, I'd wait. They're overdue for a new line of machines as well as the new OS arriving soon.

That said, I don't blame you if you can't wait.. I switched a few weeks ago and couldn't be happier!

Ha. My OS is 10.3.9, so being on the bleeding edge would be a real change of pace. New software that is going to be updated anyway delights me (if it is from a mainstream firm, of course), but new state of the art hardware? You go first.

I worked on new Macs in another office recently and I'm really looking forward to getting one for myself.

But, I've decided against a 24-inch screen. That's a wall, not a screen.

according to new york times [nytimes.com] apple has announced a 4 month delay - it is now scheduled for october...

Apparently they had to move some engineers to the iPhone project to make that June deadline.

Maybe Apple needs to hire more engineers? It's not like they can't afford it....

I predict Apple will soon start offering free upgrades to Leopard to those who buy new Macs. They've done that in the past. Upgrading Mac OS X is really pretty simple.

An OS release being delayed is nothing unusual, just unusual for Apple. As a MacHead, I'll look on the bright side and be happy Apple's suffering from growing pains instead of the other kind.

Oh, and anyone who needs a bleeding edge Mac can buy an iPhone when they come out. They are Macs.
