I bought a MacBook from the online Apple store and opted for the free shipping, they said it would take about 7 business days, since I was in no hurry I went for it.
The Mac was shipped from Suzhou China yesterday morning via Fedex at 8:52 pm local time.
It was in Anchorage at 3:09 pm local time the same day and then moved through Indianapolis and Oakland before arriving at my home in Santa Rosa, CA at 11:36 this morning.
I know that they are a day ahead of us here in the States, but as far as I was concerned, it made it here in less then 2 days. Yay Fedex... and Apple of course.
I ordered something from the big A recently, and got the standard shipping...it arrived in one day. So, yeah, I agree. If you have to have something tomorrow, order it overnight. If not, try for the cheaper shipping and it may get to you tomorrow anyway...
I actually bought it to bring with me to Pubcon. I think I was the only one there without a laptop last year ;>)
It's definitely worthwhile to have a laptop for note taking during sessions. The information and ideas are flowing so fast that, even with fast typing, I still only get down about half of what I hear.
Don't take the laptop to the after-session networking though, a simple notepad is better and more beer-resistant. ;)
