Microsoft has announced that Microsoft Defender ATP for Linux is now generally available.
Microsoft Defender ATP for Linux supports recent versions of the six most common Linux Server distributions:

  • RHEL 7.2+
  • CentOS Linux 7.2+
  • Ubuntu 16 LTS, or higher LTS
  • SLES 12+
  • Debian 9+
  • Oracle Linux 7.2

It can be deployed and configured using Puppet, Ansible, or using your existing Linux configuration management tool.

    What exactly does it do?

They describe how to install it etc. - but I have no idea about why I would want it on a Linux server or how it compares with existing security software.

@graeme_p Microsoft says it has "strong preventive capabilities, a full command line experience on the client to configure and manage the agent, initiate scans, manage threats, and a familiar integrated experience for machines and alert monitoring in the Microsoft Defender Security Center."
