Those of you that frequent the Ubuntu forums will, perhaps, be aware of a recent hack, on July 14 this year. If you're not aware, you might want to enlighten yourself. It was a hack into the vBulletin software, which has since been patched.
What people want to know is whether sensitive information was extracted. It seems the hacker didn't get plain text passwords, but may have gotten e-mails and usernames.

This goes to show the importance of making sure the system has the most up-to-date iterations of the software.

Here's the latest update on the hack, what happened, and what's been done to protect the system.

Did Ubuntu have forum accounts tied into the rest of their system in any way? It sounds like they just lost usernames and e-mail data. That's not good, but it could have been a lot worse.
