Google account and older browsers

I am using Debian 5 still for various reasons
Its my favorite operating system for developing web sites
I do not even want to move up to 6 as Quanta is not working there yet.

Problem is that now google is telling me my browser (iceweasel 3.6) is incompatible to access my account especially with WC !
So I need to have an other PC on with Ubuntu just to do these things.

I find that a bit steep, even my bank works on it.
I forsee a bleak futur when we will have somebody telling us what OS to use with what browser, what search engin to use and where to store out data.

Won't Forefox work on your machine? Works on all I've seen so far. A secondary advantage when building sites is that Firefox has better compatibility than many browsers and a high percentage of visitors run it.

I use Ubuntu Lucid. Despite Firefox now being up to V6 or V7 on Windows I'm still on V3.6.23 here so Ubuntu/Canonical would appear to be some way behind, but it's still better than anything else I can run.

Iceweasel is firefox, I can not install what they propose on the mozilla site, missing libraries etc
Debian does not follow the same update frenzy as everybody else.. I can not even install chrome LOL
I will try opera.

Opera isn't bad. I have it installed for the occasional testing of sites but I use FF to test them all.

Good to see you can't install google chrome! NOT a good choice of browser: based on safari/webkit with all the bugs that entails plus a load of google's own bugs plus privacy issues...

try an up-to-date live linux cd with an up-to-date browser.

takes up less space than a second pc.

There is no real solution even in Squeeze its still FF V3.6
Chrome will not work correctly either in squeeze,
Lots of the Google stuff just does not work.
But they will not make me change OS no way.
Debian was there before Google! (still be there after them:)
+ they use open source and make a mint from it - Android how come it works so good?

I do have a windows PC next to me to see what 80% of the world sees in IE and FF 7 + Ubuntu 11.4..

EHEM! flash does not work in opera on Debian well at least I did not manage it

Anyway less ranting its the way of the world.

If your machine has Wine on it you can run MS-Windows format Firefox binaries from Portable Apps. Lots of other apps choices there too. 'Wine Tricks' allows you to load Internet Explorer 6 and Internet Explorer 7 on some Unixs.

Side benefit is you'll get those other browsers needed for thorough site testing.

pp46 - flash may be turned off in one of the security tabs? It is in all my browsers but that's my deliberate policy from way back; I have no idea what the current default settings are.

As noted above - I run FF3.6 in Unbuntu and there is no problem viewing sites - although the only google section I use now is their Base (ex-froogle) panel. I no longer use them for searching and have never had any other of their apps.
