Updating Kate on Lucid

Having updated to Lucid I'm seeing several annoying quirks that were not present on Hardy.

Does anyone know how to get the open list of files to appear in Kate's top menu bar, as it used to?

The left/right arrow isn't good enough: it's an extra menu click to get to it. The "old" system was far easier - see name, click.

And if anyone knows the correct spell to get an "update available" icon in the task bar on Lucid, as it used to on hardy, please tell me! :(

I did not know Kate could do that - I use the sidebar document list.

Could it be a plugin that you do not have installed?

Hi, Graeme.

It always worked that way on Hardy ever since installation, which I did after reading recommendations hereabouts - you were one, I think? :)

I only found the sidebar listing a couple of days ago when I finally found an online copy of the Manual (Lucid did not install the KDE help widget!). Sidebar is better that the Quick listing but still not as quick as a click on the top menu bar. :(

And now I'm having a problem with Find. It used to retain its search text across all open and newly-opened documents. Now it has to be re-entered for every open and newly-opened file. Serious problem last night, when I had to re-enter the text several times!

On the other hand, I do like the Find Box which searches through the current folder tree. It's just not suitable, though, in the above case.

There are several things in Lucid that seem retrograde compared with Hardy. Sometimes I almost regret updating to it. :(

Yes, I remember recommending it. I now use both Kate and Geany (Kate for editing remote files, and for Django templates, Geany for most other things).

I still cannot get what you describe to work at all. Please let me know if you find a fix as I would like to try it.

Several Ubuntu versions seem to have a reputation for being not as good as their immediate predecessor.

Still looking for something to show the filenames. I really do miss it. :( I'll update this thread if I find anything.

Had a problem with search/replace in Kate yesterday. Typed into the Search and Replace boxes, search failed to work at all. Highlighted the search term in the file and hit CTRL-F instead, then typed in the replace, and it worked. Another 15 minutes of my life gone. :(
