Middle mouse pasting

Does anyone know how to prevent the middle mouse button from pasting into documents?

Specifically this is Klipper and Kate: Accidentally depress the middle mouse button when scrolling down a page (a very annoying habit I've only recently acquired) and whatever is top of the clipboard gets pasted into the file without my noticing. I've checked several "short-cut" places but can't find the button.

AFAIK you need this is done at the X-Windows level, not by the Window manager or the applications.

If it does not work, and I do not think it will for a USB mouse (at least), try this: [alanbriolat.co.uk ]

Funny how a behaviour I think is really useful seems to irritate so many people!

Thanks, Graeme. Looks too complicated at this time in the morning. I'll look into it when I wake up. :)

My problem is two-fold. As I said, I tend to scroll down documents using the wheel, which I didn't used to do and wish I could break the habit. Second, I have two mice side-by-side for my two machines and I sometimes hit the wheel accidentally, since it sticks up more than the other buttons.

Thanks for the info, Graeme, but the solutions seem to affect ALL use of the middle button. I need the button to open new tabs in Firefox so killing it altogether is a bit drastic. Guess I'll just have to learn not to use the scroll-wheel. :(
