How to install a plugin for Munin?

The plugin is called multips_memory [github.com] and was released last month.

apt-get multips_memory ?

I'm no server admin, so I don't want to mess something up trying different stuff.

It's a recent Debian release (Lenny maybe...). I have root access.

This plugin is available on github, which is a version control system. They offer projects in source code, not in installable packages AFAIK.

The procedure shouldn't be too difficult though. You should download the source files on the project page and then follow the instructions which have been written down in the Wiki page. The Wiki page describes the procedure for Ubuntu, but as Ubuntu and Debian are from the same Linux family, that shouldn't be a problem.

Off the top of my head. Save the plugin to the /usr/src/.../plugin/ directory, sym link to it from /etc/munin/plugin/, edit the main conf file with the required details (user + group) and any other pre-requisites, reload munin before telneting to the munin port and listing Installed plugins. If that doesn't work search for troubleshooting on their website...
