Ubuntu Dual Monitor Support

Trying to get my dual monitors working...

I keep running into issues with my xorg.conf file and ubuntu not taking my second monitor...I'm using the twinview configuration...anyone with good resources?

Since you mentioned twinview, I assume you are using an Nvidia card?

The Linux forum on the Nvidia site is pretty good.

Make sure you are using the Nvidia driver (not a pared-down open-source driver.)

Note that twinview makes your two monitors look like one wide one. You should NOT be fiddling with Xinerama settings.

All that should be necessary is "Option "TwinView" in the "Screen" section.

I believe Option "Xinerama" "On" will create a single large screen, while not enabling it will create two separate X sessions.

At least that's what it does with my laptop's screen and an external monitor.

With the Nvidia driver, though, you do NOT use the Xinerama setting. The driver itself hides the fact that there are two screens.

It's a historical artifact - Nvidia's Twinview pre-dates Xinerama.
