Installing GCC on a Redhat AS 2.1

Missing C Compiler

I'm on my second day of settiung up my Linux Server. The Flavor I installed is the RedHat As 2.1, I was supposed to install PostgreSQL 8.1 but when I tried doing so, it said that I do not have any valid C Compiler. I tried typing "man gcc" just to see and it appears I do not have any gcc on my box.

So I downloaded one, and when I tried to configure its prefix it said:

checking for cc... no
configure: error: no acceptable cc found in $PATH

Any help? I couldn't quite figure out why it's now looking for cc...

you'd better try to install gcc from rpm

Ideally everything should be installed from rpm. But also, cc should be provided on the RedHat CD. Should be listed under development tools or compilers.

I figured out that much and I have my gcc up and on it. My only mistake was that I let someone else install my RH for me so I can save time when I know that I could be wrong, and I was. It's really hard to do your own job, harder to have it done by someone else, hardest if forced to have it done by others. But the experience taught me a lot. At least I know what RPMs are by this time, and now I know that Linux is more interesting in its command line mode.

Thanks a lot, guys. :) Now can anyone tell me how to pull a command from the history list?
