Links number dropping in Open Site Explorer

Does anyone lately see a significant drop in their number of existing backlinks in Open Site Explorer, majority of which still exist?

I saw nearly 20% of our backlinks count compared to last month, and upon random checking, found that those backlinks that are reported missing still do exist. But I didn't see that for our competitors.

Anyone knows why? OSE linkmap is powered by Linkscape

They just did a major update, and updated the Linkscape data as well, so you might take a look back to see if your link numbers dropped or not.

There are other tools out there to check links, such as MajesticSEO, so you may want to compare the two to see if there are differences.

I just checked my links and they seem to be the same. Have you checked multiple sites?

On a side note, I don't think that open site explorer is all that accurate at finding links. Others more familiar with it might want to weigh in on that, though, because it is not something I want to swear by.

I thought it was maybe one step notch than the backlinks that google shows you in WMT, but that's about it.

@bhartzer & emikey: Yeah I have just checked again and my backlinks count do drop. Compared it against multiple competitor sites and their numbers do not drop by by as many as we do.

On a site note, Yahoo Site Explorer is not that accurate too. It tends to display links from certain types of websites and ignore others.

Trying to get to Open Site Explorer now all I get using FF is

"The page isn't redirecting properly"

On a site note, Yahoo Site Explorer is not that accurate too. It tends to display links from certain types of websites and ignore others.

I Think that Yahoo will be pulling the plug on YSE later this year, so I guess it is a little late to worry about the accuracy of that tool, for what it's worth.

But I thought it HAD been pretty accurate before, no? what types of links does it seem to be excluding?

@Planet13: It tends to exclude editorial links from high trust publications such as newspapers, industry magazines, etc...You know, the kind of links that Google likes.

On a side observation, Bing Webmaster Tools seems to give me a more accurate picture of the variety of my backlinks.
