Will using automated directory submission tool harm?

Hi, I am a newbie in SEO. I recently launched my website and in the process of link building for the same.
Googling I could find some automated tools for directory submissions promising several hundred submissions say in an hour or so.
Have anyone had experience with such tools ? Also will google blacklist my site if I go for such tools?
Please help me.

as yourself this can you think of several hundred directories worth visiting? NOPE. These submission services are not worth the fees they charge even if its a silly $50

Work on building quality links anything thats worthwhile will find the site when they crawl

Most of the pages on these directories won't even be index by Google, thus making them almost useless.

Take tigger's advice here and try and find some worthwhile links.

With time and experience you will learn that the success ration of this submissions is very low.

Also, the value passed to your site is almost nothing.

Every other spammer is using the same tool and therefore there is a very similar backlink print...

a good place to start would be to find the links pointing to your competitors and targeting them

Just yesterday I was speaking to a friend about one of his clients, who got his in-house IT guy to do bulk submissions using an automated SEO directory service. This -950'ed their rankings for the two terms used in the link text.

Avoid.
