Redirect old domain for link benefit?

Trying to get some benefit out of an unused domain

I purchased a website about a year ago which was effectively a regionally targeted business/links directory. As most of the content was lost by the previous owner when his server crashed, I rebuilt the site and it's running as a directory at the moment.

Unfortunately the site has taken up more and more time that I just don't have, so I'm considering taking it down. It is a PR4 with about 2,300 backlinks.

My question is, would there be any benefit in 301 redirecting all those incoming links to my main website? It is targeted to the same geographical area but is more of a niche than a generic links directory.

How is the PageRank distribution throughout the site? If it is good, I would keep it and use it as a "site booster" and link to sites that need a link boost. It could be quite effective...and I assume you are using AdSense to help with paying the hosting bill.

Because I 'rescued' the site before it dropped, the PR distribution is pretty poor, as 99% of incoming links go directly to the index page. In fact, only the index page and one or two internal pages have PR. Google seems to have clearly identified this as a directory and most of the internal pages are grey-barred.

I've since redirected the domain to my main site. No adverse effects as yet, will let you know if there are any!
