Using Layers in Frontpage 2003

Hi i have been using frontpage 2003 to create and maintain a clan website and recently decided to create a whole new theme for it using layers, what i am wondering is, is this the right approach?
I dont know css or java script and the site was created using adobe photoshop, the only way i thought it could be done was by using a table, insert a picture, create a layer over the top and add a cell into the layer so i can add buttons over the picture.
Also i am using .png files so im worried that compatibility with other web browsers might be an issue. Can this all be achieved in a simpler way?

I have also noticed that .gif files are not showing true gradients and sharp edges, instead they are jagged along the outside edge of the image so i have used .png which shows everything how it should including transparency in ie7 but not in firefox, now i am at a loss and am not sure how to fix this....can anybody help me plz?

Hi.
The layers i have used are an option with frontpage 2003.
They are like cells that dont stretch with the content, they are all fixed in position and dont move with the screen.
To create them i just selected the layer option from the toolbar, placed them over the image on the html and adjusted the size to suit the image size of the buttons, it looks cool when finished but i am wondering if this is the wrong way of doing things as i have never worked with these layers before......The only layers i have ever used are in photoshop for my art

I have remade the page without using layers, it seemed too messy, so this time i just used tables and cells.
Im having trouble lining up a row of buttons over the header, the cells dont seem to want to move up 1 or 2 pixels. Anyway here is 2 links, <snip> to the page done using layers

can i post a picture of the problem if i cant post the url?
asking for the code is a bit much as i am only trying to fix a small problem now, and i dont really want to confuse myself searching the code for a snippet, so i took a screenshot of my problem

I thoght i would leave the answers to my question here.
1. don't use layers they are too messy, try using cells.
2. .png files are hell of a lot better quality then .gif.
so long as ur browser is updated (firefox or IE) u wont have any trouble viewing the images.
3. try tweaking the size of the cells in design view.

persistence paid off, after a bit of headache ad tweaking i got what i wanted.
Now i have to go learn css from the start
