I would start by using a Validator [validator.w3.org] to clean up all those errors. But honestly, I think you're almost better off doing a rewrite from scratch. Get rid of all that table garbage. You've got height attributes on td elements like height="1%"... I suspect those are probably what's causing the funky layout. Note, your page is so broken that I'm surprised ANY browser is displaying it the way you want it.

This is the wake up call I needed to start fresh! Yes, can't disagree with you there, I have had this home page for about 4 years now (the website itself is 15 years old) and I have always used Front Page and I basically keep changing and editing things and that has resulted into the mess you see.

Ok, other than Front Page and Dreamweaver, what else should I use? I have had a bad experience using layers in WYSIWYG Editors: it looks completely different when I preview it than what I see in the actual editor.

Personally, I'm more of a source code editor kinda guy. I am comfortable writing and editing the code itself. If you're looking for a new WYSIWYG editor, I can't really offer much advice. However, the Google Web Designer [google.com] looks promising.

Otherwise FrontPage and Dreamweaver are fantastic tools... if and when you know how to use them. Otherwise a lot of unwanted CSS can creep into everything. The earliest versions of Dreamweaver may be better for what you need. If using Frontpage, be aware that some code may require Frontpage extension support on the site.

Tables are ok. Just remove anything related to height using "percentages".

Only for those who do not know how to use them. As has been pointed out many times before... DIV is not even needed, not necessary and certainly not the best alternative. Anyway, that topic is getting boring. If you can only build websites using other peoples CMS like WordPress, simply enjoy the fact that life has been made easy for those who do not even have to think about HTML anymore.

FWIW, WebKit does appear to "fix" this. If you look at the DOM (via the object inspector) then the HTML element is present.
