slideshow - load time

I'm deciding on the look of a home page. It will have either one large window with an automated slide show of jpg's of 1 mb each. Or 5 small windows, with automated slide shows of jpg's of 200 kb each. IOW, the total data is the same size. Would either version load at the same speed? If not, which would be faster? Thanks!

The smaller files will load faster..but they might not load in "sets"..and the "might not", might vary from user to user ( in fact probably will and from time to time ) so the visitor may well have to wait for them all to load before any will work properly without disconcerting delays..

That said .. 1meg jpegs are a bit big..even 200kb is a bit big..not everyone has fast and fat pipes..and some are data capped..

Visitors will thank you if you slim your files down some more..

Thanks for the feedback. Good points! Re: data cap I'll definitely reduce the size of the jpg's. I'm also re-thinking that the slider should be manual instead of automated.

Here's another question. Not sure how to phrase it. If a visitor during a session, returns to the homepage where the manual sliders are, is there a slider program that will recognize that the same IP has returned - and will change the image. The intent is to keep the look fresh - while keeping load times as fast as possible.
