Where can I get better photos than istockphoto?

Without paying an arm and a leg!

I have always felt that good quality photos add to the professionality of a site. I don't like run-of-the-mill photos that are fuzzy. I often spends hours looking through istockphoto and 123rf. Sometimes I find some really good ones and they don't always cost that much. But there is tons of junk on there too.

Anyone have any suggestions where I can get some generally better quality and still not pay through the nose (I think Getty is a rip off)?

There are dozens of stock sites out there with varying degrees of quality and price. But unless you are willing to pay the quality isn't really going to be that great.

IMO The trick to getting good shots is being creative with your search - ensuring you narrow as best you can.

Every stock photo site we have used in the past has at some point be bought by Getty and either has been closed down or they have added a 0 to their subscription price so we would have to pay $1000 a year instead of $100. Right now we use fotolia - not the subscription but we pay only for the pictures we use. Until Getty buys them.
