I do market research for an online Real Estate community profile company and we have been looking into upgrading the website to incorporate the Google Maps API in as rich a way as possible. Ideally we would like to present a searchable map that draws on Google's property listings (which can be seen with a "Real Estate near "x"" search in Google Maps), with the user setting the same parameters they can when in Google Maps (Google provides the user with a search criteria box).
Is anyone familiar enough with the Google Map API (v3) to know if this is possible? We've noticed that the "My Maps" feature in Google Maps has recently lost the "Add Content" feature which normally would allow the incorporation of some Real Estate property information on a personalized map, with the implication that the My Maps feature is going through a large debugging or possibly capacity overhaul. We can of course see what the larger online real estate companies have done with the API, populating it with their own property listing information.
Just what are capacities of the Google Map API for embedding searchable information in Real Estate?
