file size changes on graphics upload

Problem with file size increasing from photoshop to Shopsite

Here's the problem. A jpeg "saved for web & devices" in Photoshop at an optimized file size of 2.5 kb ends up increasing in size to about 5 kb on upload to Shopsite.

Now, if I use Yahoo smush.it I reduce the 5.0 kb image to 2.5 kb save it then upload to Shopsite and the file stays at 2.5 kb.

There must be a setting in PS that's adding to the file size. Can anyone shed some light on this problem?

After you "save for web and devices" what is the file size when you look at it's properties? (right click - properties)... Plus are we talking about a jpeg, png, gif or what?
