Take the screen shots at the same resolution you intend to use so you don't have to resize the image thus losing clarity of text.

Also there are some nice screenshot plugins for browsers out there. For example: [addons.mozilla.org...]

Do you intend to use the screen shots on printed material..?

Hey good idea,.. didn't even think of that. I cant go as low as I'd like but lower then I have been. And no not on printed,. strictly on the web. Also Ill check out the browser plug-ins ,.. I have just been using print screen.

Use .gif or .png instead of .jpg.

.gif is only suitable for screenshots of pages like this one where there isn't a lot of imagery, gradients etc. It will produce a perfect reproduction on this page but will fail on pages with a lot of imagery, gradients etc because of the small color pallette. The text and edges will be just as crisp as you see it now however.

.png is more suitable for screenshots of pages with a lot of imagery.

.jpg should be reserved for imagery only such as photos.

I should also add .gif will produce a much smaller file size than using .jpg for a web page like this believe it or not. To get any where near the file size of a .gif for page like this would require you set the compression so low the artifacts go way beyond just blurriness.

On the other hand if this page was comprised of many images with a lot of detail the .gif file would be quite large compared to .jpg and would not even come close to reprodcing the images faithfully.

You need to use the right tool for the job. :)
