can this be done in photoshop?

trying to replace colors of an image with a gradient

I have a graphic that has a gradient and I would like to change that to change it from blue to a specific shade of yellow. Seeing how the graphic has a gradient, I want the darkest part to match a hexidecimal code I specify and the other shades to be simply lighter shades of it.

I've seen photoshop tutorials where they recommend the hue/saturation tool, which changes the colors nicely but doesn't allow you to specify the color the way I'd like.

Can this be done in photoshop, or do I need some other program?

Sodani,

This is pretty easy.

Choose your color, make sure you are in rgb and the background is not locked

choose all to get the full gradient

choose "Fill" under the "Edit" menu

Here is where some experimenting comes in, make sure "Contents" uses the foreground color (which you chose in the first step)

Try "color" or "hue" at 100%, make sure "Preserve Transparency" is checked. If color or hue doesn't float your boat, try experimenting with other blending options.

Ahh perfect. Thank you! Also, I'm curious - is illustrator better for working with graphics? I'd like to do more graphic editing and I have little need for photo editing.

I use Illustrator for vector graphics and photoshop for everything else. If you are creating logos for print use, then go with illustrator. If not photoshop is fine.

I don't think one is better than the other in general. It depends on the specific results you need to achieve. What is better is to be able to work with both :)
