what about paper sizes - ISO(A4) vs US sizes?

Hi all,
I live outside the US, but most of our clients are US.
We are in the process of creating a PDF brochure for our product, and want to absolutley optimize quality.
We want the brochure (it will only probably be two pages) to print out beautifully, and so should we design it for US paper size,or A4? I read that A4 isn't used much yet in US, and so should we design/optimize it for a US 'letter' or US 'legal' size?

Our thoughts are that if the content is placed/sized for A4 then when someone in the US prints on a US paper size, the conversion that takes place could degrade the look a little, of affect pagination.

Your thoughts would be appreciated....

US letter size. You won't have a scaling problems then. I would think that the letersize should print onto A4 paper without a problem.

Also whatever program you export from the PDF, export it at 300 dpi, print quality. This of course will make the file larger. We *do* use A4 here, just most of us don't stock up on the paper or have printers that use the format. :-)
Also if you do create it at a larger size you won't lose quality - this actually drives the print resolution up when printed smaller. It's the inverse that loses quality.

Yes, thanks for all comments.
My main concern is for the pagination - I want to get the page sizing right so that content from page 1 doesn't 'spill over'.

thanks all.

The margin size would be like 12.7 for each side. If you still have doubts on anything regarding pdf files you can check planetpdf dot com. Here's a small desription of the sizes:

Millimetres Inches
Width Length Width Length
A4 210.0 297.0 8.26 11.69
Letter 215.9 279.4 8.50 11.00
