Transparent PNG vs IE

problems with transparency in IE

I'm currently building a website, using Photoshop blending options, curved edges and so forth on the template. I figured the easiest way to go about the problem with having a seamless pattern background would be to save every image in the website as a PNG with transparent backing.

It works fine in Opera end Firefox, but in IE the images are not transparent at all. The blank areas of the images are filled with grey :/

Any ideas?

save it as png-8 instead of png-24. I had the same problem before, this worked out well.

png-8 only works with a solid background. If you need to overlay the image on a gradient, shadow or pattern, png-8 will fail like a gif would. You need a png-24 with a javascript filter that turns on for IE. Use the search term mentioned above.

You can use a script that can be triggered by only adding one CSS rule.
Combining this with IE conditional comments you can set it to trigger only for IE6.
