.fit files from NASA

hello, i have been asked to handle some .fit files -they are a file format used by NASA to photograph astronomical 'things'. Does anyone know how to open these .fit files in photoshop cs2? or even how i could open them in some other software that i could then same them in a photoshop compatable file format?

you need to first open them in xnview ( best peice of freeware out there ..no spyware ..no nasties ..)

then convert it using xnveiw to whatver you want ..

xnview is great leosghost! It is probably the quick way to do this. but if you want to edit or manipulate these fit files other than converting them, there is an incredible piece of software called imagej
[rsb.info.nih.gov...]
It handles .fit, dicom, & other fancy scientific formats. I do believe it has more image processing features than any other software i've read about ( never actually used it or photoshop, mind you.). don't forget to join the imagej mailing list at the national institute of health, though. You'll need it & the great manuals at various other sites. This software is used for image analysis. It's amazing what it can do!
