Are Product Videos Worth It?

Hi Everyone

I was just wondering if - to promote the sale of products on an ecommerce site - the use of video adds or detracts from the user experience. We just launched a new site with product videos which show the items rotating so that customers can see them from all angles. No-one else seems to be doing this, and I'm not sure why.

<snip>

Many thanks

Nick

I don't think it can hurt at all - Consistent filming of the the products might be a challenge in it's own right but would give your users the wow experience and a better understanding of your products.

A small, well optimised flash video would certainly impress me if I was buying something that I needed to see from all angles, like furniture, for instance. Would also be good to show scale, texture and 'serving suggestions'.

I surmise the key to this is page/site integration - I think an option to view might be the way to go, so that users don't get bogged down by the inevitable page weight increase on pages where the video is embedded.

The choice to add video might also depend on the product - could be a bit over-kill if you sell socks...
