Image Resolution

How do I find out what resolution an image has?

Is there an easy way to do this? Fireworks just seems to ask what resolution to open the image with but I'm trying to find out what existing resolution our logos have been saved with (jpgs and eps files). Thanks for your help.

I'm going on the assumption that you mean only EPS vectored art because you said EPS. In my experience Fireworks (or Photoshop) won't ask you to set a resolution if the file is already a bitmapped format, such as jpg, .bmp or tiff.

Vectored art doesn't draw "resolution" until you print it (even if the printing medium is to a program's canvas or your monitor.) So in this case, a program like Fireworks, which only works in pixels, is asking you what resolution to render the vectored art at.

So to answer your question, if the artwork is vectored art, there **is** no inherent resolution. That's what's cool about that medium, it's not resolution dependent. :-)

If it's jpgs for the web, do 72ppi, although it doesn't matter when the images are for the web. Only pixel size matters.

If it's for print, you choose what ppi you want to print the image at. High ppi, the image will print smaller and vice-versa.
