Let's say I copy a PNG from the web and it has a transparent background. When I paste into Fireworks the transparent background is replaced with a black background. Is there any way to prevent the black background from appearing?

I don't normally have this problem. Transparent PNGs open in Fireworks with a transparent background for me. Is this happening consistently or just on specific files from a specific source?

It happens when I copy/paste a PNG from a website.

What happens if you drag the image to your desktop, then open it in Fireworks?

I had a theory about black being used as the 'transparency colour' for those particular images (I use a bright green). However, I tried replicating the problem in Fireworks 8 on one of my own images, and I got the same problem.
Turns out whoisgregg is right on the money. Save the images somewhere first, then open them in Fireworks. Copying and pasting inexplicably makes the transparency black and un-transparent.

I suspect that the clipboard (in whatever OS you are using) is incapable of retaining the transparency of those particular PNGs.
