ICON gif transparency

Transparency doesn't work on my desktop

I have an ebook program which allows me to incorporate an icon of my ebook.

I used Fireworks 2 to make the icon and it works fine in the ebook program and displays ok on a web page.

When I try to use it on my desktop the transparent background is no longer transparent and my icon displays as a square rather than the book shaped image I need.

Anyone know how I can correct this?

I've not used ebook for years - when you export from fireworks are you selecting index-transparency for your GIF? This 'should' convert into transparency for .ico files AFAIK - Or maybe you could use icon-sushi or irfanview to make the icon with transparency and replace the one created through e-book?

Many Thanks Limbo - I'd never heard of icon-sushi and it looks like just what I need. I'll give it a try.
