Google Search Console Mis-Reporting Links

GSC is reporting about 40K links from a domain but we can't find the links.

Hello,

Google Search Console is reporting that we have about 40,000 links coming from one domain. The site linking to ours is a forum site that we have a profile of our doctor on but we should not have nearly that many links. It's also reporting some anchor text that is no way related to our practice.

When I go into these 40K links, I see that they all say it's "Via this intermediate link:". ALL of those links have the word "tracked" in the URL but it's not a URL of our site, it's another URL to the forum (and it doesn't redirect to our site). I have reached out to the forum and they have no idea what I'm talking about since they can't see a link to our website on these 40K pages either.

No other backlink tools are finding these links but every week Google is reporting finding more and more. I reported this to Google a few weeks ago but no changes.

I'm not convinced this is causing any SEO issues but I do want it cleared up to be sure.

Anyone seen anything similar? Were you able to fix it?

Hi lduggan,

"tracked" is one of the many ways that analytics software can track where visitors go if they leave a site. The CMS inserts that attribute automatically when a link is added to a page. This is common and nothing to worry about.

I wouldn't worry either about GSC counting it as an incoming link; it actually is. Google knows how to handle it.
