Google says it's added real time sharing to Maps on Android and iOS, with people being able to see the location from Android, iPhone, mobile web, and desktop.

The "share location" option allows you to choose who sees the information, and means that your contacts, friends or family can see your location on a map in real time. There's a 1-hours sharing option, or show until turned off. To avoid this being left on, there's a reminder to show you're actively sharing.

I can see where this would be a useful feature perhaps for youngsters letting their parents know where they are, or even for the elderly that can easily get lost. Of course, they have to have the phone with them in the first place.

I'm still waiting for the update to tell me which room in the house I left my phone in.

The Maps share location option is a very clever new idea. I can see lots of spin-offs, including games & meet-up apps porting into this feature.

Of course, it's worth noting that the tracking is already on for Google, so this is just a way of letting others know.

Yes, meet-ups might also be an idea. Heading to a conference often means trying to hook up with others, and this might make it easier.

Nice feature, and much better than having to use a third-party app, which I have tried in the past.

First time I see the .google TLD in use!
