I'm logged in to google day to day and check the main dashboard messages, but haven't bothered using the backlinks view for over 2 years on the new site at all.

I use to obsess over site backlinks and when G data become far out of date along with the time wasted over the disavow file jiggery-pokery I stopped caring and no longer trust their guidelines. Should I look and see what links we have? I would not be at all surprised if there are all negative seo sblog links though. That's mainly all I see in our referral data webstats besides Adwords traffic. Then if I see the negative links, sites copying content, spam blog links, I'll have to waste time trying to remove them and end up wasting time on endless non-product tasks.

Your site - your time.

But if you think it's all a waste of time, why even ask? We all have to decide how to budget our resources and where to focus our time. That's part of webmastering.

Do some reading here at WW and learn from others how backlinks are affecting their bottom line.

I was hoping for better tools and better procedures for dealing with problems. Never mind.
