Making Google+ work better for you

Listening to your feedback inspired us to introduce a new Google+ focused on helping you connect around shared interests a little over a year ago. Your feedback led us to launch more than 50 updates across Android, iOS and web to ensure the new experience serves you even better than the previous one. Big changes like powerful tools for Community moderators, image comments and joining the G Suite family were all thanks to your input.

After all of these updates, more people are discovering vibrant Communities and creating inspiring Collections than ever before. So it’s in this same spirit that we’re pleased to add three new much requested updates, rolling out over the next couple of weeks, to Google+.

  • Hiding low-quality comments
  • Bringing back Events

  • The hiding of low quality comments must be their answer to the comment spam issue [webmasterworld.com] I noticed.

The return of Events seems to show that they realize that they gutted the platform a bit too heavily. I wonder if it's too little, too late...

What is Google+? Was that before MySpace?

A Google+ account is important for having your business listed in Google Local Search, having your business identified in Google Maps and as an account hub for all your other Google services.

g+ is a catchall for all your biz and if you don't use it some other more attractive g features won't work. Won't call it extortion to use their service to access other services, but comes close. (sigh)

My neighbor reminds me that Google+ is one of the very few ways to get your business in Google Local Search & on Google Maps (with GPS driving instructions) even if you don't have a website.

I suspect Google will keep trying to make G+ work in some shape or form and it'll be interesting to see what it morphs into with the future developments.

They continue to try to force feed Google+ when the answer is extremely simple, pay/influence/incentivise allot of celebs to post on Google+ as they do twitter and facebook. The rest of the sheep will follow.

I think when people (mistakenly) attempt to compare Google+ with Facebook, it will fail in comparison.

However Facebook is Facebook; one site with many features.

Google is a wide assortment of services & utilities that span the internet and related technologies. Google+ is your account hub... and yes it is also a Social Media site.

Oh and it's also important for Google to tie all your web searches, Analytics, YouTube & Android activity to your profile so they can better profit off of you.

I tried deleting my G+ profile on YouTube years ago, not long after it was introduced. It resulted in all of my years of comments being deleted along with some other settings. Long story short it was not successful and I still have a G+ profile, but locked down the privacy so you can't see anything other than my business website link & YT vids.

Well, as long as the thread has floated to the surface again (crystal ball says there was a spam post in the night) ...

Lately the w3 link checker has been complaining loudly that the author link in my footer leads to a 404. After about the sixth or eighth time this happened, I established that, where it formerly said profiles.google.com/long-string-of-numbers, you now have to "join" Google+ (basically one click, since they already know who you are and are just waiting for that click) and now it's plus.google.com/identical-string-of-numbers.

I suppose somebody must have told me (er ... mustn't they?) and I wasn't listening. Sigh.
