Adding author and publisher links

I manage several websites for the company

Lets say I manage 8 websites for our company. Only a couple are in the same nitch so I have 2 in one nitch and 6 that are all different.

I built our CEO as the main Google + page years ago so he would be the author for all out content.

My question would be adding the rel=author I would use our main Google + page, but the links to the Google + should go to pages I have built under the main page?

Example we have a LMS for schools so the author tag will be the main page but the Google + button should go to a school information page I add info for schools.

and

We have a LMS for trucking so the Google + author tag would be the same tag on both sites, but the Google + link should land on a page built for trucking. This way I can also claim publisher for the content on the sites, correct.

Then for the LMS website I would do the same and so on. So in effect I would have one main Google + to be the author for all the sites, and 5 or more pages under my main Google + page to claim publisher

This way the content I post per website the Google + landing page would be relevant to the content within the website.

I don't understand your question. Author and publisher are different concepts and you can put both together in the same page without troubles.
As my sites are build with Wordpress, I have a plugin to inset meta tags in it like this:

<link rel="author" href="https://plus.google.com/108576941240005911004/posts"/> 
<link rel="publisher" href="https://plus.google.com/b/113026159474062141157"/>

The first one points to my personal profile, as author, and the second one points to the website's page, as publisher.

You can finally point other links elsewhere in the body of your articles.

Thanks lexur yes this is what I am asking and how I set my sites up.

I assume since I am the owner of the domains and content I can add the author tag to multiple sites and have the publisher tag go to the publisher page I am building under my Google + account.

The link I am adding to my sites for Google+ lands on the publisher page built under my Google+ account relevant to the content on the website.

I noticed you have a url like [plus.google.com...] but when I am not signed in and click the Google+ button on the website the url redirects to
[plus.google.com...]

I wonder should I use the url when I am signed in our use the url a viewer would see when they click the Google+ button on the site when claiming publisher?

It's not relevant if you're the owner of the website. There is a lot of guest bloggers who post in anyone's blog just to have a link to their G+ profile.

Keep in mind, it's not only a question of URL but of the rel attribute. I suspect Google gives more credit to a link with the atribute publisher than other without it when is trying to check the page publisher. Sound logical, isnt?

Regarding the kind of URL, I think both are valid. Just add one of it and look if your G+ page shows a checkmark as verified page; mine does it.

When I did this the Publisher rel attribute only goes on your homepage. That's to verify your Google+ Page.

The Author rel attribute would go on the individual blog post pages, wouldn't they? These are the ones that are triggering profile images to show up in the SERPs, and are linked to your individual Google+ Profile.

Bill I am trying to claim ownership Author for multiple websites by using the main google+ page as the author and then claiming publisher linked back to a page built under the main + page. The url I am adding to my + button lands on the page built under the main profile+ page so each website I add publisher to lands on a different + page built for that website.

Everything seems to be working correctly

bwnbwn, I think it could be clearest if you change "main google+ page" or "main + page" for "personal profile".

So you're using sub-pages grouped under a main G+ page?

That makes sense. Each Publisher would point to a separate G+ page then.

I'm not clear how you're using the Author tag though.

Sorry Lexur I see were the confusion can come in.
Bill the Author is the CEO's personal profile url. He is the owner of the company so any and all content I create he is the author on all our websites. The Publisher is the subpages I add snips of the content, enough to claim but not enough to be considered duplicate.

Couldn't you just link to the post and publish that on the sub-Page? The ownership would already be established by virtue of the tags.
