Google Now Requires GTINs In Shopping Product Data Feeds

From 16 May 2016, we will require merchants targeting the US, Australia, Brazil, the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland and the UK to submit correct GTINs and the corresponding brand for all new products with GTINs assigned by the manufacturers

It allows us to lump all the product offers together so that we can implement our soon to be announced only the top 20% of bids will be displayed ads.

We're not currently providing GTINs in our feeds for reasons I won't go into, but none of the products have been disapproved. However, one of our sites did start losing a great deal of exposure on Thursday. Not sure if it's related or not.

Going back to the original announcement [webmasterworld.com...] it refers to recognised brands. If your product is not one of those brands, or is customised, that's ok. However, if it is from one of the recognised brands it's likely to suffer from the competition that has added the GTINs. Those with the GTINs will probably feature their ads first.
