Looking at the trend for browsers, it's sure on its way up. I've found that IE has been more often failing to display some sites correctly. In part i'm sure it's down to all the different versions of IE.

Report: Google's Chrome Browser Now The Web's Most Used Browser [thenextweb.com]

Google Chrome has been long expected to leapfrog Microsoft’s Internet Explorer (IE) to take its position as the Web’s most used browser and, according to data from Statcounter, the momentous change of leadership happened last week.

Statcounter’s findings give Google a double win, after the analytics site found that its mobile browser — Android Robot — had leapfrogged Opera to become the most popular option for mobile-based Web surfers in March.

Measuring the Web is an imprecise science, very often based on scaling up small scale measurement surveys, but the gist of Statcounter’s data over the last year indicates that Chrome use is rising of Chrome at the expense of IE and Firefox, regardless of the exact precision of the data.

My stats are:

IE - 32.53%
Safari - 29.36% - scary, must be mobiles?
Chrome - 16.80%
Firefox - 11.61%
Android - 6.21%

The previous remark about screen resolution was also interesting. I don't understand my stats which show:

1024x768 - 18.54%
1366x768 - 16.18% - who uses that setting?
320 x 480 - 13.57% - mobiles again
1280x800 - 11.94%
800x600 has disappeared entirely, oh for the good old days!

Not according to my stats, either. And my analytics package has a publicly viewable chart showing browser usage throughout all the sites they do stats for, and IE is still way ahead of everybody else on that.

My site receives a lot of visitors from around the world. My stats for the month look like this:

Internet Explorer: 32.95%
Safari: 24.94%
Chrome: 18.25%
Firefox: 13.92%

Internet Explorer is still the most popular browser for all the sites I maintain. However, everyone in our office like Chrome the best.

I'm guessing Chrome will take the lead sooner than we think.

Wow, my site is still at 55% IE, then Safari, then Firefox, then Chrome. Way out of whack with reports here but it shows how a certain market or industry can be different.

I don't like spyware so I won't use Chrome either. I do use the Ironware version of it though to get rid of the junk.

It depends on few factors like country, time period, age of the users and so on. The thing is that it's number one in the world for the last few months. Although my stats confirm that, I still see IE beating Chrome in the US. And considering the fact that IE and Safari come as defaults, I think we have to admit that Firefox, Chrome, and Opera are doing pretty good job, and the overtaking is inevitable.

I saw a chart the other day with countries and the most dominant browsers. In the US IE is used the most. In India and Russia Chrome rules.

The point I want to make is that just because YOUR stats are different than what the GLOBAL STAT COMPANIES show, does not mean that their stats are BS. I'm sure they know what they are doing, since it's what they do.

Its most definitely not. I just checked stats over 15 different websites that i manage for clients as well as my own. Chrome is no where near the stated figures. IE still leads with almost double the number of chrome users on most sites. (wide variety of topics from shopping to IT)

Spin and PR stunts... nothing more nothing less..or they've been counting prefetch and google bots.

A million "widescreen" laptops. Because nobody minds a little 13" screen that's got less vertical resolution than a 15 year old laptop, so long as it's WIDESCREEN, man.

Who from IT uses IE? Oh I know who, those who work for MS :)

Honestly I haven't met a single person (not counting MS and Bing guys) from IT field that preferred IE over any other browser.

Total BS, no idea how they actually got those stats, but they do not even come close to any others I have seen. This is the last stats from our Yahoo eCommerce store for the past 30 or so hours:

According to CNET Chrome was downloaded 169,389 times last week. Just for comparison last week Firefox was downloaded 86,023 times. This should give you some kind of idea on whats going on. The stats are worldwide. I guess most of those who see IE beating Chrome receive most of their traffic from UK or US.

Those stats are just as meaningless as the headlne stats are. Those are CNET downloads only, and don't even touch the typical million+ downloads directly from the websites. When I update Chrome, I do it fromt the Google site, when I update Firefox I do it from the Firefox website.
