Has Google's AMP lost its shine? Is there any point in maintaining AMP?

AMP was a great idea, in one respect, in that phone bandwidth, in certain regions, was limited, and in effect was slow, and costly to the user. That's becoming less of an issue these days.
AMP was snapped up by publishers when it was introduced, in part, because there was the opportunity to gain top rankings. It's interesting that it's continually being questioned, and I wonder if it's soon be dropped entirely.
