YouTube Mid Roll Ads Experience

I was redirected to a YouTube video on my TV the other day, which doesn't happen.

I started watching and YouTube's mid-roll ads were interrupting the flow of the video to such a degree that I had to stop watching.

Surely, if Google is all about user experience, this is a perfect example of a bad user experience.

Not only is it bad for the user, but it's bad for the advertisers, and bad for the creative.

Yes, and I have seen channels that put their own (non-AdSense) promo in the middle of their own roll. I'm guessing they are following Google's bad lead there. Too easy to skip through though. ;)

Not easy to skip through on a TV.

I believe the value of the creatives' material is significantly reduced in the race to run ads everywhere.

95% of my YouTube watching is on the TV while I'm on my computer. The number of mid-roll ads is so offensive that I got mad and broke down and paid for YouTube premium for a year. I'm not joking when I say a consistent 30 seconds of ads or more after only 3 minutes of watch time. It got worse and worse over time. I don't see the same behavior on the app or from a web browser.

OK, I should qualify that, we use Roku for TV, including YouTube.

Sounds like I should be grateful my tv is too stupid to do internet! :(

a smart tv isn't necessary to do internet.
my roku is a standalone device that connects to my monitor with a standard HDMI cable.

That's one way ... but I also don't roku either. That's an interface like cable tv, right? A box add on. Not a tv. :)

Old school--because I am old phart. :(

Please bear with us ... we oldsters really do TRY to keep up!

Meanwhile, I ain't seeing 30 second ads in the middle of yt content. Still do that the old-fashioned way by going to site and clicking things, and having a robust ad blocker in place as well.

YMMV

At least I am not paying for a subscription!

some of us are geographically challenged and cannot receive OTA signals.
