Looks like Google's "Get Your Business Online" (GYOB) campaign is set to go nation-wide in the US -- free websites, free hosting and a $75 Adwords Credit...

On June 25, Google apparently transferred 100 domains to their servers in the format StateGetOnline.com & GetStateOnline for most of the 50 states and an additional overarching domain USGetOnline.com. While the move is certainly a defensive domain acquisition/protection strategy, it seems equally likely that free website program could soon be rolling out nationally.

So ..they are rolling out this "offer" to you guys in the US now..There was an earlier thread ( which I can't find ;-) about a variant of this showing up in some of our countries a few weeks back.

What a load of horse-pucky.

They strategically offer a (3) page website with no email, no ownership of the domain, and no support knowing they'll be sucking people into upgrading and getting them paying more than it's worth for template based 4,5, or more page sites very quickly.

What those people will get for $6.99 a month will be worth less than most $3.99/mo bottom of the barrel paid packages.

INTUIT and GOOGLE should be ashamed of themselves for using the word "FREE".

The "success stories" section is total bait and switch -- none of the "cases" are (3) page websites -- and they present the sites as if having the FREE Website was the success.

I'd like to see the reviews from people who took the "FREE" deal and two or three weeks in realize how much they need to pay to have a a real website with real support and real features.

In Spain we have a quote wich says "Each day that the sun rises, the number of silly people grow"(1) and I supose that's the business idea of Google with this campaign: they are stupid, we are soooo smart...

Seen this with other service providers. People take the "free" template based, online edited, html only, option then complain because they haven't got databases, PHP, FTP etc etc.

Of course they will use their adwords vouchers (Don't you have to pay a sign up fee on top?) then promptly get the campaign suspended because the site doesn't meet quality requirements.
