Hello everyone,

I run my own advertising and recently found out that one of my old clients has opted to no longer advertise with us directly but instead sponsored a google ad word for anyone searching for my domain name. Is there anything I can do about this?

If you're in the US or Canada and your former client is using your domain name only as a keyword and not in the text of the ad, then there isn't much you can do about it. If they're using it in the ad text or it's outside the US/Canada market, then take a look at [google.com...]

As the previous poster stated, not much you can do unless they're using your trademark in their ad text... but, pay close attention to this case:

[webmasterworld.com...]

They are not using the domain name in the ad text itself. Thank you for the information.

Does anyone know if someone has filed any civil law suits against the advertising companies as apposed to against google? It would seem if they have specifically chosen the word that is my domain name they are attempting to make money on my copyright. I would think I might have a case to recoop any monies they've made on it?

They may not be targeting your domain name specifically. If their keywords list includes a broad match phrase of words that occur in your domain name, but could also be used separately, then G's AdWords programming will often trigger their ad even for concatenated and/or misspelled versions of the keyword phrase. That's just the way G's keyword matching algos work.
