Invalid clicks? Why would that be a problem?

I find this perplexing message in my AdSense interface: invalid clicks + the usual standard explanations which don't explain anything, but give a thousand possibilities.

I am not too worried... because I never click on my own ads... And my sites' design hasn't changed in years.

But can someone explain: why invalid clicks would be a problem at all, since publishers are no longer paid by the click?

Well, it is my understanding that Google (through Google Ads) still charge Advertisers on the CPC model, but paying publishers (through Google Adsense) on the CPM model. So invalid clicko's would be a metrics problem for advertiser trust.

I agree with Brett.

With that said, take a look at your logs on the server+website and try to see anything strange, bots? If you use cloudflare, you can also look at the stats and you can send them(google) with screenshots and explain what you see from your end, that is what we used to do way back in the day, am not sure how you contact them these days but if it comes to it, show them data to counter whatever they come with so that they won't close your account.
