AdSense CMP default GDPR message

I turned on Google's AdSense GDPR Consent Message two days ago, and the results have been horrendous. I went with the default, two button message popup as it's straightforward enough. One options button, one I consent-button. Nothing special.

My Consent Rate over my first 20 000 messages shown is only 9% which seems absurdly low, and my Impression RPM has dropped from about 25 to 8. The site I show ads on is a simple daily word game with a mostly older and very kind userbase, that I would expect to just give their consent. I ask for nothing out of the ordinary.

Has anybody experienced anything similar? I have no idea what I'm doing wrong, and even if it's only been a day and a half it's alarming. I saw in the other thread here that people report consent rates of 80% or more.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Klobblobb and welcome to WebmasterWorld [webmasterworld.com]

It often takes a few days for Goolge to catch up with itself on anything new, I wouldn't start worrying until/IF it stays so low. Be sure you have selected the 'right' message for your traffic.

This is an older (October) discussion where others commented on "How much did your revenue drop after GDPR consent setup?": [webmasterworld.com...]

I customized the prompt to include both the site logo and some nicely worded text, I think this is really important to not scare people off.

Also, it took a good 2 full weeks to see the full fruits of this change with modest incremental gains seen every day.

Thank you both for the reassuring posts. I'll give it a week or two and report back how it goes.

In any case I think 9% consent rate seems weird. Simply cannot believe so few users clicked the simple consent all button.
