Hi Mr0c and welcome to WebmasterWorld [webmasterworld.com]

If there were some underused low competition niche or vertical lying around, I'm afraid it is lying around in a low competition state due to a low prospect for monetization. To produce useful, competent content day after day it takes your personal interest in what you write about to keep at it. Even the best find it tiresome to keep coming up with content and that becomes impossible when there is no big return. The days of creating a blog for income are long gone. You need lots of valid traffic before they will let you try.

I would not want to discourage you if you know you can dedicate your life to relatively hard work for relatively low income. There are many millions of people already learning it is a mistake to build a MFA site with plans of big money. But, if you really feel you must, then you should not need any help to decide what you want to write about.

Some good old advice about AdSense success:
Make your site attractive and/or useful to buyers, and you'll do well with AdSense AND affiliate programs.

MFA (made for adsense) sites don't do well, even without competition. G knows what they are.

Niches? There's a bunch of bunches out there. The ones that do well are those that come from PASSION, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, and AUTHORITY. Some have it, some don't.

ON THE OTHER HAND, there are a lot of niches out there where some kind of revenue can be made---but NOT the top popular this, that, or the other. Traffic might be lower ... 1,000-10,000 a month instead of 1,000,000-10,000,000 a month. Might not generate enough income to buy a mansion, but might pay all hosting/dev costs AND put a little pocket change in the bank, and do it CONSISTENTLY.

But even then, at these lesser niche tiers, you will need the same thing:

PASSION, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, and AUTHORITY. Some have it, some don't.

The only way to find out is to give it a try.

MEANWHILE, you likely won't get many suggestions for topic/niche since everybody is doing that already and are zealously guarding any they have "discovered". However, it is pretty reasonable to say which are the MOST COMPETITIVE and difficult to get noticed: Sports, Entertainment, News, Health ... and all of these are fraught with OTHER difficulties such as COPYRIGHT, TRADEMARK, and REGISTRATION, not to mention GOVERNANCE in some cases.

One can make a living on the web, but it is NOT easy, QUICK, or GUARANTEED. It takes time, effort, money, time, more time, more effort, more money... but the biggest factor is TIME. Which means you, as the webmaster, have to have PATIENCE, Time to invest in the work, a willing attitude to work without pay, and a skill to create an internet experience that others will wish to enjoy.

It can be done.

It just cannot be done simply to make quick money with adsense.

Good luck!

Wishing all good fortune moving forward! Find that thing you can embrace with passion, that you know something about, and are willing to work hard for little to no pay at the beginning!

We all started that way.

Good luck!

It's all about getting quality traffic to your website about something. Learn about that and you will have success in every niche. Since personalized ads are everywhere, it's no more necessary to focus about small niches. Most important thing in this game is, that your visitors have a well cookie history in their browser / a good user profile for advertisers. For example: If your visitor is interested in trading and from US and did research before he came to your "blog about wordpress tips" website, you will get that $30 or more CPC.
You surely saw that when you visit websites about something, you (almost) don't see ads about that content. 99% you see there retargeting ads or similar theme/niche ads from another advertisers like you visited before.

At one time this might have been true, but today's browsers are killing off cookies and national governments are coming after them as well. On top of that data privacy is coming back to the forefront and that changes things---once again!

Only way forward it to keep on top of things and DON'T DO SOMETHING STUPID. :)

Cookieless & contextual will be more important in future that's true.
Personalized: Is it working right now and in next future? YES!

My opinion, don't think like that.

You start something because it is your passion, your hobby, and if that reflects success follows you automatically.

I think I read that somewhere but Google also looks at sites that only do it for the money. We no longer live in the Google Sniper era. So do something that you really know about and that is your passion, and prepare your strategy for AI, because AI is going to be applied in Google what is already happening in Bing.

Just my opinion though
