Today, we're announcing a new ad format called side rails. Side rails are ads that stick to the sides of your pages when they're viewed on widescreen devices, such as desktops. If you already have anchor ads turned on, side rails will automatically start to appear on your site after December 13, 2022.

If you'd prefer not to show side rails, you can turn off this option in your Auto ads settings.

There should be a reminder in the Ads section of your adsense account, too.

FYI - Trying to search for side rails on WW loads up a huge Bing.com/Shop ad above results telling me to buy shop rails.

Revisiting these 3 months later...

Good for viewability, not so great for CTR... these are CPM advertiser magnets of the most ad-blindness inducing order. That's fine for ad display sites set up to deliver more engagement and page views per session, but not so much for sites trying to set up to get clicks (especially at the bottom of pages).

These really should refresh every 15-20 seconds since they remain on the screen the entire visit.
