Which really means, "Always make sure your ads are AS LARGE AS POSSIBLE." Ignore any specified container.

As has been stated here many times, NOTHING slows down page speed more than AdSense ads.
This is fact, everyone who comes here and reads, now knows it.
I don't see any suggestion to work around this. The only solution is to remove the ads, if speed is THAT important.
The previously touted solution was AMP. I read here that that has not been working out so well.

I'd still like to know whatever happen to the Coalition for Better Ads' guidelines. They were supposed to go into effect two years ago and frowned upon nearly everything auto ads do. Now I can't even find how to check if my sites have been reviewed in Webmaster Tools. Did the whole idea about improving user experience just die on the vine?

And the "speed", now "user experience" thingy.
Since all my pages are responsive, they are identical for desktop and mobile.
Yet, my desktop score is 100% GOOD for desktop (every page), and yet 100% SLOW for mobile (every page).

Can we cut to the chase, and just tell me what you want me to do, besides fret, wonder and dance?

Just cautious these days. So many other g recommendations have fallen short over the last decade so opting to avoid blood on the bleeding edge. :)

NO, but there are severe disadvantages - getting burned for being a beta tester, bleeding for the newest thing, taking the hit for others, etc.

I prefer the old adage, "I'm from Missouri, show me". Then, MAYBE, I will follow.
This applies to ANY latest version of ANYTHING - software, browser, revolutionary wonderful new thing, etc.

I am a big believer in testing - test everything you can, But first, let someone else test. Let them bleed. Saves so much time. And frustration.
And there are plenty of folks who will, which makes it very nice.
