I've been hearing for 2-3 years that we're about to go into a recession. Look at the common demoninators Adsense winners and losers, and you'll find the reason why.

If it were just Adsense you might have a point. But other good companies like Exponential are down too. Besides, all of the economist are saying a recession is coming. Of course, it will affect different niches differently.

Actually, "all the economist" do not say a recession is coming. A recent survey showed slightly over half say a recession is "possible" before 2020. That doesn't mean one is imminent, nor is there universal agreement. Growth slowing is more likely, but it's still growth.

August numbers announced just a few minutes ago:
The USA added another 164,000 jobs, unemployment is steady at 3.7% (half-century low), hourly earnings up 3.2% from this month last year, consumer spending up, and the output of services and goods are up.

A handful saying their ad income numbers are down is not an indicator of a trend. We always hear more from the losers than the winners.

Facing the same issue here. CPC, RPM and CTR today are really low. Yesterday were kinda better, though.

@motorhaven, are rate cuts a sign of a strong economy or an economy at risk?

For me it's my CTR up 40% compared to yesterday and my CPC down 35%... at the end no improvement but these are huge fluctuations with 80K to 100K pageviews a day.

CTR improved greatly yesterday for me yesterday. CPC still poor .07 and 70k pageviews

Noticed a high mass of activities of some of my pages without clicking ads so that the overall RMP is fully down.

It's back to normal today. Lower than average, but still no abnormal drop. Something was broken yesterday.

Has anyone ever had Impressions lower than Pageviews? I don't think I've ever seen that on any of my websites, but today my main website has more pageviews than impressions. ?

I currently only have 1 Adsense ad displaying and get more page views than impressions.

But for multiple ads, less impressions seems odd. I would look at the reports and see which ads aren't getting impressions.

Probably useful for publishers who have been affected by this phenomena:
Traffic is jumping while RPM is going down.

Found out that some of my websites where bombarded by robots which not only lowered the average RPM which mathematically logical, but also affected the high quality traffic RPM.

By stopping the infected websites, now back to ‚normality‘

August started very slow for me with lower than average US RPM. Saturday and Sunday, however, were very good.

It's weird @kireb, it seems that when your site is up mine is down. For me this saturday and sunday have been a total disaster.
My site is travel, main geos france, germany and usa.

I believe Adsense and search has a "rolling algorithm" (similar to a rolling code) that causes fluctuations. To what degree I have no idea as some ranked pages do have consistency.

Without a question, they have this. Their algorithm changes during the day (and from day-to-day) within the same localities...and, obviously, from location to location.

Additionally, I am seeing a very low fill rate in all my ad services which is typical this time of year for my niche, but NEVER this bad. I'm just trying to get to school time - late August through May. Those are my money months (normally).

Very rocky ride this month. From low to very high, and now low again. Today stands at 50% of Monday. Bizar these fluctuations.

One thing I've learned over the years with Adsense is do NOT let them select the ad sizes and location placements. Do it yourself! If you use 3 ads, try to use 3 different ad sizes and maintain those sizes. I like the 336x280, 300x600, and 728x90 sizes.

Yesterday lowest rpm in this project's life (7 years). Ultra optimized layout and having more traffic than ever. RPM down 70% from same period last year.

Traffic increase is about 15%. Most of the gain came from optimizing Active View Viewable in January / February. I increased that by about 10%, with no increase in the number of ads per page, and RPM has been steadily climbing since. I'll get more specifics later today, after I complete a very large software migration for a client.

Has anyone used media.net? I started using them again as fallback ads and gave them 27,000 impressions yesterday...the result? .92 cents. How long does it take for things to ramp up with Media.net?
